About Me

I don’t like these “about me” pages. Always hard to know what someone would find interesting about yourself without sounding pretentious. I grew up in the suburbs of a big California city. I did not grow up on a farm. The only contact I had with farms growing up were our family summer trips to the Sacramento Delta where we would steal tomatoes and corn from fields. We learned that “field” corn isn’t something meant to eat fresh. Yuck! My first experience working with farmers and learning about farming came while serving in the Peace Corps in a little African nation called Togo (bet you don’t know where that is). I taught fish farming there and learned a great deal about where real joy comes from. I came home and went back to school and then became a “plant doctor”. In California they are called Pest Control Advisers. So now I work in the fields of California helping farmers to grow the food you eat. If you want to know what a Plant Doctor is, see my first blog post at What is a Plant Doctor
